As a Homes for Pets volunteer, I’m lucky enough to meet many of our rescues, but rarely do I have the honor to spend a week getting to know them as personally as these two very special, furry boys.

Boerne (black and white) and Laredo (tan and white), are one year old terrier mixes. They were found dumped behind a restaurant, along with some broken down furniture. Many people tried to help them, but they would not come to anyone. After about a week, our amazing foster was able to trap them both and took them to her home.
They were neutered, fully vetted, and have been living with her for the past month or so. Their foster mom would often send me texts, telling me how amazing these two were. When I offered to watched them while she went out of town, all she said about them was confirmed, plus more!
On the first day I arrived, the two were very unsure of me. Boerne started warming up fairly quickly, but Laredo was very scared and wouldn’t let me touch him. Every time I stopped by to see them, Laredo would get a little closer, while I was petting Boerne. I believe it was a combination between watching out for his brother and trying to figure out who I was.
Around day three, I was finally able to pet Laredo. After that day, his trust for me multiplied by leaps and bounds, each time I visited. This skittish, little ball of fluff came out of his shell and I could finally see who both dogs truly were. Let me tell you, I was truly impressed!
Both boys are truly a bonded pair. We aren’t sure if they are blood brothers, but they are for sure the best of friends. They are playful (fetch experts), smart (fast learners and know basic commands), loving (they love to be close and give kisses) and extremely gentle tempered little guys.
We would love to see them go to their forever home together. The ideal home for them, would be a calm, very patient, household. Preferably, one with no young children, as the two pups scare easily at first. It would also be preferable that the primary care giver be a female. Although they may warm up to a male, it seems that they have a large preference for females, especially at first. Boerne and Laredo have not been around other dogs, but do extremely well with cats.
